SUNSCREENS IN FOCUS:
REGULATION, CLAIMS & TESTING

Wednesday 25 March 2026

In a country with one of the highest melanoma rates in the world, sunscreen performance is not optional - it’s essential.

This seminar brings together clinical, regulatory and laboratory perspectives to explore melanoma prevention, recent sunscreen  regulatory changes, and the latest developments in SPF testing - connecting public health outcomes with regulatory responsibility and laboratory performance.

During this seminar A/Prof Robyn Saw will present Melanoma: Prevention and Cure, defining melanoma, outlining evidence-based prevention strategies, and summarising current treatment approaches, including
surgical intervention and drug therapy.

Mr John Staton, a leading Australian expert and pioneer in sunscreen testing and SPF (Sun Protection Factor) validation, will provide insight into recent regulatory developments and compliance expectations shaping the Australian sunscreen landscape.

And to wrap up the evening, Mr Craig Dennyson, who brings over 20 years’ experience in sunscreen testing and ISO-level involvement in standards required under AS/NZS 2604:2021 will present the latest developments in both in vitro and in vivo testing methodologies and highlight the critical role laboratories play in underpinning compliant and defensible SPF claims in Australia.
